Has anyone downloaded and tested the wine 0.9.29 release, looks like there are a lot of new fixes that should have some benefit to framerates etc. I've downloaded it but am waiting on an OK before I go ahead and install it seeing as 0.9.28 is reasonably functional (with the El***ER patch)

currently the game freezes at about 80% when entering game as x (the x mouse is still movable but the eve mouse is stuck and an err is reported at the terminal - just alt tab to the terminal and CTRL+C to kill Eve)
I got something similar to this due to a corrupted texture file recently (after lagging out in a DED - eek). I ended up cleaning up all the recent files, but then hit the partial screen thing. The alt-enter thing took care of that, but I was worried there for a while till i ran across the solution. A benefit to the problem is I ended up resizing the desktop up to 1280 x 1024 while floundering around. There¦s still a memory leak around somewhere as after a few hours everything still slows down. It takes longer now with more memory installed though. I tend to play without sound as well, seems more stable that way (and is noticeably faster). I¦m running the ***505 client, wine 0.9.29 (patched of course - thanks again for the constant updates). Small stuff: The lens flare effects seem odd particularly with the mining lasers, planet textures tend to wander around, though roids seem rock-solid. There are the odd CTD on jumping, and a once in a while drag and drop stops responding (think these are related to mem leak, as it seems more frequent with longer connection times).

Originally by: Locus Bey v/desktop already set at that res. i've downloaded the d3dx9_30.dll file. i'm hoping that fixes the screen res and virtual cursor problem.
The partial desktop thing usually corrects with alt-Enter which toggles fullscreen/windowed mode. Windowed mode is kind of broken for us, though sometimes it works. Don't worry about those Caps (no Caps support etc) errors, throws them constantly here, but game doesn't crash

looks like 29115 is getting further into the game now
but it throws an exception while loading the chat channels so they don't appear it also helps with the fps to disable the d3d_surface and d3d debug channels
Any news with 29208 (the version being pushed after Tues server patch)?

I am pleased to report that I¦m patched to 29.239 without any issues. It looks like there¦s already a new patch out (.316) however. I played over my lunch break: mined, fought, and fiddled with the various menus without any crashes. YMMV. Cheers!

I am out of commission here too, my old version of wine 0.9.31 just stopped after the splash screen, with no further notice. Wine 0.9.42 gives me a windows pop-up error message Runtime Error: Program C:\eve\bin\ExeFile.exe r6034 A program has attempted to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
in console I see this:
bash-3.1$ wine eve.exe fixme:process:IsWow64Process (0xffffffff 0x33fc34) stub! fixme:actctx:parse_assembly_elem wrong version fixme:actctx:parse_manifest failed to parse manifest L"\\??\\C:\\eve\\bin\\Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest" fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.VC80.CRT" fixme:actctx:parse_assembly_elem wrong version fixme:actctx:parse_manifest failed to parse manifest L"\\??\\C:\\eve\\bin\\Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest" fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.VC80.CRT" fixme:actctx:parse_assembly_elem wrong version fixme:actctx:parse_manifest failed to parse manifest L"\\??\\C:\\eve\\bin\\Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest" fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.VC80.CRT" err:module:LdrInitializeThunk "MSVCR80.dll" failed to initialize, aborting err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\eve\\bin\\ExeFile.exe" failed, status c0000142

The loader.c hack didn't work, but I noticed there was a new version of the Microsoft.VC80.crt.manifest file in the Microsoft.VC80.CRT folder, once I copied this to the bin directory the Visual C errors stopped, but I'm still getting splash n' crash. Also tried the multiple copies of libc.ccp as well without luck. Will continue trying tomorrow.

I've upgraded to 0.9.44, it seems to be working somewhat reasonably, though I am seeing a lot of these: fixme:d3d_draw:drawPrimitive Using software emulation because not all material properties could be tracked which I'd been seeing in 0.9.42
And a few of these: fixme:d3d:IWineD3DQueryImpl_GetData >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502) from glGetQueryObjectuivARB(GL_QUERY_RESULT) @ query.c / 203 which I wasn't getting before.
Tried with sound on, but got a Dmixer error and a CTD fairly quickly.
Seemed to have a bit of instabilility other than this but was not wine, rather I'd been folding the last few days and the processor was running a bit on the hot side, after 1/2 hour of cooldown I went out and mined for 3 hours straight with no hiccups.

Seems to be OK here with 0.9.46, getting some new errors in console, but gameplay does not appear to be adversely affected. Very occasional CTD on leaving station or jumps (somewhat annoying with a wardec going on). Not getting the font corruption reported by others, running latest NVidia driver (100.14.19)

Wine 0.9.46 also tosses the same error message.

The fixme's are irrelevant here, I was getting them with a working client.
Official client doesn't work on Slack, so I'm glad I have 15 days left on the skill I am training.

Interestingly enough, I couldn't get EVE running under WINE after the Trinity patch, even with elfe's patches applied to the wine source. Today I manually patched to the latest client (premium), lo and behold its working again (sort of). I am not seeing the icon corruption I did under the official client, but now with both options available I can use one or the other depending on circumstances. With WINE, initially framerates are about 50% higher, but I see a massive drop after jumping systems, one jump and its slower than the official client, which doesn't seem to have the same problem. Oddly the UI seems more snappy under WINE, even after the framerate slowdown.

Similar results to Sevarus, the update to Empyrean Age JUST WORKED(tm). (Slackware, Wine 1.0 rc3, 8800 GT 512 video) Not longer getting any more glitches on login screen. Some very minor glitches on stations. HDR and shadows off. Framerates are good. Congrats to the devs for not breaking anything. (But give me back the old Helios model, please) |

Latest wine (1.1.12) has some EVE-related fixes:
7814 EVE Online mini maps in agent missions/browser are corrupted 10594 EVE Online has several rendering/stability problems 16421 EVE Online fails to start with hardware vertex shaders
I've done some brief testing and the can vouch for the mission mini-map. I was also able to enable HDR with no loss of stability. Shadows still have problems.

I've successfully downloaded and installed the sisi Apocrypha patch here (Wine 1.1.14 on Slack/Nvidia latest stable) I got it up and running but so far running into a few bugs. Approaching gates the screen whites out nearly completely. Had trouble scanning: I wasn't able to select the scan types to process just got an error you can't analyze that many types, but no way of narrowing down the choices. Also noticed a distinct gradual drop in framerates (from 60 down to 5) till I docked, at which point they returned to normal, so there may be a memory leak somewhere. Skill queue works. Maybe we should start a new thread? |
